2022 Kin Birdsong Shiraz

2022 Kin Birdsong Shiraz

Fruit purity and aromatic complexity are two of the calling cards of the 2022 Birdsong. So much going on here, with pepper, spice, violets and a cool red and blue fruit character. Mid-weight, fresh and bursting with energy, the textured tannins help prolong the finish beautifully.

Vineyard Notes
Polygon 14 Shiraz (young vine, clay) makes up the backbone of the blend this year and is complemented by Polygon 11 Shiraz (young vine, schist) and old vine Block 5&6 Shiraz. NASAA certified organic and biodynamic.

"The 2022 Birdsong Shiraz is sourced from old vines in the certified organic and biodynamic vineyard in Greenock. It had a wild ferment in concrete tulips, and the aromatics here lean toward clean concrete, wet slate, blackberry, black tea leaves, dried tobacco, pepper rolled pastrami and charred peanut shells—there's a lot going on. In the mouth, the wine achieves a fruit clarity like a cloudless midnight sky full of stars. It has pure, classy, gritty tannins that feel of the earth and the vine. Chewy. Good!"

94+ Points, Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate

"This project feels regal and well resourced. Keep your eyes on it. Organic farmed. Game meat, white pepper, dark, plummy fruit, a bit of black olive and ferrous earthiness here too. Similar to taste with a whack of clove spice. Medium weight almost cooler climate feel to the wine (!) with a building flourish of chalky tannins in a wave from mid palate. Finishes a little salty-distracting, but hey. Nice one, team, for something a bit out of the Barossa norm."
