Tasting Notes
2022 is our 2nd release and displays a pretty, elegant vintage character that really suits this wine. It is lifted and floral, with red, blue and black fruit that feels cool and controlled. The tannins build on the palate and cut through the fruit, bringing savoury structure and savoury refreshment.
Vineyard Notes
There were three different parcels of young and old vine Shiraz fruit in the blend: 87% comes from Block 23 (on schist) , 8% from Block 5&6 (Old Quarter) and 5% from Polygon 14 (on clay). NASAA certified organic and biodynamic.

"“Biodynamic farmed and raised. Big energy to this wine. Feels lively and bright rather than leaning into its apparent darker fruit characters; spice and alpine herb characters help with that, as does some floral prettiness. Texture is plush and satiny and the finish twinkles with silty tannin, a relative chomp of that, and some saline minerality. Truly charming”.

"Winemaker Amelia Nolan notes that 2022 was a cool, compressed vintage that shows a little more restraint and elegance compared to the exuberance of 2021. Certified organic and biodynamic shiraz from blocks 23 (87%), 5 and 6 (8%) and Polygon 14 (5%); 85% whole bunches, fermented in concrete tulips (P14 went into foudre) and matured for six months before blending. It's a pure, wonderfully spicy and nicely composed wine with a buzzy, mineral energy, citrus blossom top notes, powdery tannins and an effortless sense of drinkability."

93 points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion

"The 2022 Kin Shiraz is lithe, febrile and savory, with a splash of chalky tannins throughout. Liquid, dappled and peppered with a profusion of black spice (clove, star anise, peppercorns, dried tobacco), the wine has clarity and form. It will not be for everyone. Not a "classic Barossa Shiraz," it is the Alkina take, and the distinctive house style is a pleasure to witness, even in these "entry-level" wines. This is excellent. It fermented and matured in concrete tulips that were airlifted through the roof frame in the winery. A thing of beauty. 14.2% alcohol, sealed under screw cap."
