2023 Kin Pink Semillon

2023 Kin Pink Semillon

A truly fascinating wine that defies all categorisation…except that it is more-ish and very thirst-quenching. Alpine herbs mingle with orange and nectarine notes on the nose and something of a light amaro herb character. Lip-smacking acidity and a sense of zip combine with orange fruit character on the palate. Edgy, vital and memorable.

Vineyard Notes
2016 plantings near Greenock Creek. Curiously the block was planted with Semillon cuttings but evolved to Semillon, Semillon Gris (red skinned) and some odd Shiraz vines. A happy accident! NASAA certified organic and biodynamic.

100% semillon gris with light skin contact, primary and malolactic fermentation in 1650L Gamba foudre before maturation in concrete on light lees. Pale orange salmon in the glass with aromas of white peach, cranberry and red apple with hints of blood orange, ruby red grapefruit, soft spice, redcurrant paste, dried citrus rind and white flowers. Sapid and delicious with a pure fruit core and a lovely, light red-fruited flow on the exit. Rosé-esque semillon gris for the win!

The 2023 Kin Pink Semillon is 100% Semillon, so you may wonder where the "pink" comes from. Well, the Semillon mutated to Semillon Gris (red skins), and is there some Shiraz vines in the vineyard, dotted here and there, perhaps. Anyway, it's an interesting phenomena. So, on the nose, the wine is all about blood orange and a hint of Campari, some cut grass and red apple skins. In the mouth, the mid-palate is full and quite delicious, delivering watermelon, raspberry pip and strawberry top. Nice wine.
