2024 Estate Grenache
Marking our 10 year milestone in the vineyard, this new Estate trio draws upon 70 year old blocks in which fruit quality has increased significantly thanks to increased experience and viticultural focus. The Estate Grenache has beautiful shape, with tightly wound tannin around a core of red fruit, spice and dried flowers. There’s a mineral edge to the flavours, buoyed by bright natural acidity and a real sense of tension and energy.

You don’t rock up to these modern grenache wines with an empty mind, or with an empty heart. You rock up with air sucked into your lungs, and this air is full of hope. Most times, the air is sucked straight out. But here the hope turned straight into joy, and from there we’re away, full like a balloon. Crushed rocks, berried fruits, cooling herbs, twigs, macerated flowers. This is an autumn solstice of a wine, summer and winter placed at a tension point. It’s textural. It has the presence of mind to run grip through its gears. It’s a motivated self-started of a wine, start to finish; sans artifice. You could use the word verity and be bang on. It’s 55 bucks, on the nose, for the win.

The premiere release of this wine. Perfumed aromas of raspberries, sandalwood, blueberry bush and pencil shavings. The palate is medium-bodied with finely tuned tannins that bring a mouthwatering mineral edge and flavors of cherries, dried herbs, rose petals and dried strawberries. Wonderfully balanced and focused, with a high-strung structure coming from 80% whole-cluster fermentation and aging in concrete. Drink or hold.

A triumph of blending? Earthy nose and very bumptious fruit. Complexity here! Delicacy with undertow, and lots of very fine tannin to keep it going for quite a while.

There is fine purity to be found in this 2024 Grenache Estate. It has an even flow of raspberry and cranberry aromas with an attractive charcuterie-tinged lift. This opens with chalky, compact textures before building to a sustained palate with significant fruit and length.
