2024 Estate Shiraz
Shiraz was outstanding across the board, and this Estate Shiraz shows the generosity of the season with a core of cool red and blue fruit and meaty, peppery notes on the edges. There is a round lushness to the tannin profile and the resulting mouthfeel.

This is another stunning example of the new wave of the Barossa. Wines like this are winning people back. This wine – grown organically – was matured in concrete, and old foudre, and a concrete amphora. Most of it in truth went into concrete and there are no signs of oak in flavour terms.
It’s pure, stemmy, complex, peppery and beautifully well fruited. It’s got stuff going on. Black cherries, plums, nuts, twigs, herbs and spices, but the power of the fruit and the in-built velvet of its texture wins the day. The lack of alcohol warmth here is really quite noticeable. It can be done. It has been done. This is a champion wine from Alkina.

Perfumed and spiced aromas of boysenberries, mulberry compote, fresh thyme, peppercorns and cured meat. The palate is full-bodied with firmly framed tannins and a plush, rounded mouthfeel, giving flavors of dark cherries, Damson plums, graphite and violets. There's a lovely reductive edge and the trademark concrete influence that comes from the Alkina cellars, with 70% whole cluster. Drink or hold.

The 2024 Shiraz Estate offers up plush cherry cola and chalky aromatics lifted by mixed spices. It is dry and medium-bodied, with some nice detail and sandy tannins balanced with subtle meaty tones to finish.
